UPSC Preliminary Examination
UPSC Preliminary Examination of the Civil Services Examination for recruitment to the Services and Posts mentioned below will be held by the Union Public Service Commission on 5th June, 2022 in accordance with the Rules published by the Department of Personnel & Training in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 2nd Feb, 2022. All candidates must carefully read the Civil Services Examination-2022 Rules together with all the Appendices along with the Annexures thereof and this Examination Notice derived from the CSE Rules, 2022 in entirety for gaining awareness of the current Rules and Regulations as changes may have been incorporated since the previous Examination Rules. Eligibility Criteria of UPSC Civil Services (Pre) Examination
Age Limit: A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August, 2022 i.e., the candidate must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1990 and not later than 1st August, 2001.
Age Relaxation: The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates.
Educational Qualification: A candidate must hold a degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.
UPSC Civil Services (Pre) Examination Scheme
The Civil Services Examination will consist of two successive stages :
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and
(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts noted above.

UPSC Exam Pattern
UPSC civil services exam pattern is officially divided into two stages called Preliminary and Main Examination while in practice, it is a three-stage exam. The third being Personality Test/Interview.
As per the IAS exam pattern, candidates who clear the Prelims are eligible for Mains and candidates who clear the Main reach the interview stage.

Preliminary Exam or IAS Prelims is a one day exam conducted in two sessions. The IAS Preliminary Exam stage consists of two papers- General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II. General Studies Paper I consists of 100 questions of 2 marks each which is to be answered in 2 hours. The syllabus for Paper I can be found here.
General Studies Paper II consists of 80 questions of 2.5 marks each which is to be answered in 2 hours. The syllabus for General Studies Paper II can be found here. For each question for which a wrong answer is given by the candidate, one-third of the marks. The question papers are written both in English and Hindi. There is sectional cut off for both the papers.
